Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Reviews

Based on 7 critics - Overal Score: 85 / 100

GameInfo: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 12 years ago. CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more. "Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi at Valve.
"For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."

NowGamer Back in 2003, Valve released a port of its phenomenally popular Half-Life mod, Counter-Strike, exclusively on Xbox. It was, in many ways, the perfect replica of its PC counterpart, offering console gamers the first chance to immerse themselves in the strategic first-person shooter with minimal tweaks to the original design. Gaming Bolt Gaming Bolt - Ah, Counter-Strike. Memories of struggling against aim-botting Chinese players, trying to figure out how they play and why I suck so much, and finally settling for some glorious low ping LAN gameplay made me realize the amount of depth the game has. It needs no introduction, really. Read Full Review

EuroGamer The core of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a reminder that quality can be permanent rather than fleeting, and the new additions give us new reasons to take interest and - hopefully - another way in for people who are ready for something different. Read Full Review

GamesTM CS: GO stands as a glowing reminder that quality game design is rewarded in longevity and variety. Valve has not only updated the shooter but has completely outclassed its contemporaries. This is Counter-Strike, whatever the format you choose to play it on, and there isn’t a higher recommendation than that. Read Full Review

JPS Counter-Strike is still going strong in the PC community to this day, but console gamers haven’t seen that title on their system since the game was ported on Xbox back in 2003. Between now and then, Call of Duty has set up residence on consoles and has become the industry standard for FPS games — exactly what PC players think of CS. With Activision’s annual title holding a majority of the shooter market, can CS:GO’s updated classic gameplay survive on more than nostalgia? Read Full Review

Metro It doesn’t even try to reinvent the Counter-Strike formula, but this is easily the best version for consoles and a refreshing retro alternative to the modern military shooter. Read Full Review

AOTF It is the inequities of the game in comparison to previous installments in the series, along with some noticeably missed opportunities, that prevent CS:GO from being truly phenomenal. Read Full Review

ChronoGamers If there’s anything you can say about Valve, it’s that they are some smart people. From starting Steam, to creating the Source Engine, they’ve been key to keeping the PC gaming industry alive for years now. Another smart thing that the company did was years ago, when they hired the people who made Counter-Strike, a mod for Half-Life. Back in those days, I was a stupid kid too dumb to know what a mod was… Let alone knowing how to install and play such a brilliant game. When Counter-Strike Source was released though, I became addicted for months. Years later, after expansion packs and the particularly popular Counter Strike Source remake, Valve are ready for a new entry in the franchise. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has hordes of fans ready for the ground-breaking shooter’s return. After learning much over the years since Counter Strike Source’s release, with titles like Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Left 4 Dead, Valve is trying to bring back a classic franchise. Will CS:GO stealthily infiltrate the gaming world, or just bomb? Read Full Review
