BrutalGamer.com The game’s tone is more on the light and whimsical side of piracy (Pirates of the Caribbean and Monkey Island, again) and less on the darker and more serious side of history book pirates. Pirates of Black Cove is split off into two different modes of gameplay: water and land-based exploration and action." Read Full Review | 80/100 |
Examiner.com Pirates of Black Cove blends elements of real-time strategy, role-playing, and arcade-style naval warfare into an entertaining, casual and occasionally ‘punny’ pirate adventure sure to plunder a few hours of your time. Pirates of Black Cove is not (somewhat unfortunately) ‘Grand Theft Pirate’ , although someone really should get started on one. Instead, Pirates of Black Cove combines a lightweight RPG, RTS, and casual arcade shooter into a single package, and manages to pull off the marriage fairly well on all fronts.Read Full Review | 80/100 |
Cheat CC Pirates seem like such an obvious fit for video games. They sail the seas in search of treasure and adventure, get into epic swordfights, battle mythological creatures, and rank in popularity somewhere between robots and ninjas. It's strange then, that, with the possible exception of LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean, there simply haven't been any good pirate games released lately. Nitro Games hopes to change this with their most recent title, Pirates of Black Cove. Read Full Review | 78/100 |
Game Guys Before Terry Brockheimer brought Disney's 'Pirates of the Caribbean' to the silver screen, the majority of Pirate-themed movies were campy at best. As an unintentional form of patronage to those movies, Paradox Interactive has recently released PC game Pirates of the Black Cove. Read Full Review | 70/100 |
Player Affinity "Pirates of the Black Cove can be described as an adventure real time strategy RPG. But it’s much easier to see it as a modern remake of Sid Meier’s Pirates. For those who haven’t heard of it, Sid Meier’s Pirates and its 2005 remake were pirate simulators that combined numerous gameplay elements and featured ship-to-ship combat, sword fighting, a vast sea to sail and governors' daughters to woo. Despite the fun fusion of style’s there really haven’t been any other games that have capture the life of a pirate quite so well(Sans maybe Pirates of the Burning Sea), so it’ll be interesting to see if Pirates of the Black Cove can compete with the PC gaming classic." Ironhammers Midway through Pirates of Black Cove, a new, well, Pirate-based game from Paradox Interactive and Nitro Games I was sailing my ship through the world map, to fetch something for one of the game’s three pirate chiefs. Three enemy ships in an ambush suddenly clobbered me. I reloaded several times to the same result. Eventually, I stepped back and tried to find some smaller quests to complete as to gain the experience and upgrades needed to stand up to them. But I had completed all the other available missions. I was, quite literally, trapped on my side of the map with no idea how to make it across. Read Full Review | 60/100 |
GAMElitist.com Yo-ho-ho! John of GAMElitist.com wades through the pirate puns, grog and saucy wenches to see if Pirates of Black Cove is worth it. One thing's certain, it needs more saucy wenches. Read Full Review | 60/100 |
Empty Lifebar "Take one of those books of 101 Pirate Jokes and add on some silly RTS and naval combat controls and you might have Pirates of Black Cove. Paradox Interactive and Nitro Games have made a game that is a quite interesting mix of different genres but one must remember the old saying that the Jack of all trades is the master of none. Except maybe really corney pirate jokes." Read Full Review | 60/100 |
CheatHappens I recently took a trip overseas. More than half of the trip was completely over water, so there was nothing to look at, and it was one of the most mind numbing and boring experiences I've ever had the umm...pleasure of being a part of. Then, three months after getting off the plane, I was dumped back into the experience, but this time I never left my office. Read Full Review | 50/100 |
GamingBolt "Pirates of Black Cove gets a few things right, and definitely has a ton of potential, but adly, it fails to deliver in most aspects, and what we get instead is a broken, glitchy, boring game." Read Full Review | 45/100 |
FTG "What do little pirates want to be when they grow up? A carrrrrr salesman. No, this is not a good joke, but it’s a silly one, and Pirates of Black Cove uses such gags to make a charming first impression. But peg leg puns can get a game only so far, and your grins turn to groans when you discover how simple, easy, and boring this action/strategy hybrid is."- williamtimothy Read Full Review | 45/100 |
