Bits 'n' Bytes Gaming Earlier, I mentioned my weakness to RTS games. Oil Rush has become a good fit. Both diehard fans of the genre as well as initiates will enjoy the game for its simplicity and look. It looks fantastic, too, with a high level of graphical detail in units, combat and the seas themselves. And though the story may not be intriguing, this flaw is overshadowed by the exceptional gameplay. Play a few rounds of Oil Rush, and you’ll find yourself hooked on a unique game. Bag of Games Oil Rush is something never seen before. It is not pure RTS nor is it pure defense either. It is something between them. The game looks amazing, the atmosphere is just right and the simple straightforward mechanics delivers surprisingly fresh gaming experience. While the game does have few problems, none of them are big enough to really hinder the gameplay experience. Try it, if you want something fresh. Read Full Review | 82/100 |
Destructoid Late last year, Anno 2070 tried to explore the post-apocalyptic setting of an Earth flooded by drastically risen sea levels, where Kevin Costner would have to drink his own filtered pee. If you just wanted a new Anno game with shinier graphics and a new, futuristic setting, it offered a fun way to dabble in a rather depressing dualistic future in which you tried to out-build hippies and evil industrialists. If you wanted to use naval units to wage war on your enemies, however, it was not the game to play. Enter Oil Rush, a strategy game that focuses purely on naval warfare in a similar setting and manages to both look and run better than Anno 2070 in the process. Read Full Review | 80/100 |
IGN It's a little odd to play a game as pretty as Oil Rush, yet spend a majority of the time staring at a minimap that takes up a small percentage of the screen. The gameplay revolves around attacking and defending nodes to expand and diversify your army, in the same vein as something like Galcon. Because of restrictions on movement and unit control, decisions about what to move and when aren't especially difficult to make, and despite the simplicity it's still satisfying when you manage to steer your forces in the right direction to capture a key node and secure a victory. The game's random elements are a source of frustration, however, and the single-player mode is a bore. Read Full Review | 65/100 |
