The Start

In 1987 andromeda, a british software company whose president was robert stein, managed to obtain a copyright license for the ibm pc version of the game in addition to most other platforms.
Nintendo's Story
Nintendo released tetris for the nes system as well as their hand-held game boy system. Nintendo's game boy tetris became by far the most popular version of tetris, selling over 33 million copies. Lawsuits between nintendo and andromeda would continue until 1993.
The Battle Ends
In 1996, the tetris company was founded and claimed copyrights to tetris in america in addition to securing trademark registrations for tetris in nearly every country around the globe. The tetris company also attempted to remove all clones of the game by broadcasting many cease and desist letters, but it was not a success.
